Vancouver MazdaSpeed 3 Winter Tune

Winter time is a wonderful time for many reasons … and one of them is if you have a turbocharged vehicle. They absolutely love cold air. In Vancouver our winters are mild (without much snow) and we recently tuned a local and very clean 2007 MazdaSpeed 3 with the following set of modifications:

SURE Motorsports Products:
Torq 3 – Rear Engine Mount
Countershift – shifter weight
Anchors – shifter brushings
Shortcut – short shifter plate

Cobb Tuning Products:
Access Port vs2
Turbo Inlet Hose
XLE BPV – bypass valve
Short Ram Intake
Downpipe
Current map – Stage2+”Intake”+TIH 94 v210 <– (i think its 210 or 220 – basically the newest)

T1R products:
Carbon Fiber Oil Catch Can (used for the Cobb PCV fix to stop oil from burning in exhaust)

Denso Products:
ITV22 1 Step Colder Spark Plugs (gapped at 0.28)

CP-E Products:
MZR DISI 2.3 HPFpump
Triple Gauge Pod (with Boost, Oil -Pressure & Temp)

The car was well setup and on one of the COBB’s latest off the shelf calibrations. As I mentioned in previous posts, Vancouver fuel quality leaves a lot to be desired, so the tune had to strike a good balance between power and safety for the modifications installed.

The Virtual Dyno graph attached (click to enlarge) shows the progression from the beginning of the day (RED – COBB OTS Stage 2 map) to the final BLUE – Stratified tune. Lots of midrange power was gained (+35 ft lbs of torque, +10 whp) … but unfortunately the top end was robbed by poor fuel quality. The stock K04 just won’t flow up past 5500 RPM so the only way to make power is through timing advances and our fuel just won’t allow it without knocking. In the name of safety we had to keep timing conservative compared to the OTS map.

Happy New Year,

Happy Holidays from Stratified!

Tis’ the season to be shopping … no … that’s not right! This post is not to announce any sales or promotions or to even talk about products because there’s too much of that going on already.

This post is probably a result of the warm and maybe even fuzzy feelings we all get around this time of year. At Stratified we’ve had a wonderful year and we’re very grateful. We thank all our family, friends, customers and suppliers for this. We hope the Holiday Season and 2012 bring joy, happiness, and peace in all your lives.

Thank you and Happy Holidays!

Another Mazdaspeed3 Tune

We’ve remote tuned dozens of cars now, and here’s another MS3 making some very decent power with a custom tune. This is on 91 octane gas (no E85) and the car has the following power making modifications:

2008.5 MS3 GT- Metro Grey

Cobb AP
Cobb SRI
CX Racing FMIC
Corksport CBE
CNT Catted DP
Corksport Springs
KMD HPFP v2.2 Internals
Denso ITV22

The Dyno below shows where we started with the car (the red line) and where we finished off with a safe, reliable, knock free tune (the blue line). This is a virtual dyno plot, so focus on the changes in the power curves rather than the absolute numbers. He is now making a lot more power in 3rd gear than he was previously making in 4th at very similar boost levels (the K04 can only do so much). Each car is slightly different and each location has different quality gas, so this is why custom tuning is so important for maximizing your vehicle’s performance, safety, and efficiency.

Stratified Custom Tune Mazdaspeed 3 goes to the dyno

Last week we wrote about a tune in progress on a Mazdaspeed 3 Here. This Saturday the car hit the rollers and the results speak for themselves. The stock turbo runs out of steam up top but this bolted MS3 walked away with 292 hp and 347 ft lbs of torque at the wheels! The blue graph is what we started with, and the red is the finalized tune.

Great car and great customer to work with – thanks again Brandon! Looking forward to working with you when the big turbo goes on.

As a note, this car was fully tuned remotely because Brandon is located thousands of mile from us. Custom e-tuning has proven to be a powerful and affordable way to increase the performance of MS3 and MS6 vehicles, so Contact Us if you’re interested in a tune regardless of where you live!

Another Custom MazdaSpeed3 Tune in Progress

To follow up from last week’s local tunes, here’s an in-progress tune we have been working on with a customer on the East coast. The gas quality is much better and this is seen in the numbers.

The car is a 2008.5 MazdaSpeed 3 with the following modifications:

CNT Catted Downpipe, CNT Catback Exhaust, CP-e Turbo Inlet Pipe, CP-e Short Ram Intake, Forge Bypass Valve, COBB Front Mount Intercooler, KMD Internals High Pressure Fuel Pump, ITV22 Spark Plugs, EGR Delete

The numbers speak for themselves. We were able to achieve 59 more WHP and 87 more Ft Lbs of torque more than the Off The Shelf (OTS) map and we’re not done yet. With less boost! Click on the attached Virtual Dyno below to enlarge and remember since this is a virtual dyno it is useful for comparing tunes, not absolute numbers.

Here’s where you can get your own custom tune!
