Another Mazdaspeed3 Tune

We’ve remote tuned dozens of cars now, and here’s another MS3 making some very decent power with a custom tune. This is on 91 octane gas (no E85) and the car has the following power making modifications:

2008.5 MS3 GT- Metro Grey

Cobb AP
Cobb SRI
CX Racing FMIC
Corksport CBE
CNT Catted DP
Corksport Springs
KMD HPFP v2.2 Internals
Denso ITV22

The Dyno below shows where we started with the car (the red line) and where we finished off with a safe, reliable, knock free tune (the blue line). This is a virtual dyno plot, so focus on the changes in the power curves rather than the absolute numbers. He is now making a lot more power in 3rd gear than he was previously making in 4th at very similar boost levels (the K04 can only do so much). Each car is slightly different and each location has different quality gas, so this is why custom tuning is so important for maximizing your vehicle’s performance, safety, and efficiency.

Stratified Custom Tune Mazdaspeed 3 goes to the dyno

Last week we wrote about a tune in progress on a Mazdaspeed 3 Here. This Saturday the car hit the rollers and the results speak for themselves. The stock turbo runs out of steam up top but this bolted MS3 walked away with 292 hp and 347 ft lbs of torque at the wheels! The blue graph is what we started with, and the red is the finalized tune.

Great car and great customer to work with – thanks again Brandon! Looking forward to working with you when the big turbo goes on.

As a note, this car was fully tuned remotely because Brandon is located thousands of mile from us. Custom e-tuning has proven to be a powerful and affordable way to increase the performance of MS3 and MS6 vehicles, so Contact Us if you’re interested in a tune regardless of where you live!

Another Custom MazdaSpeed3 Tune in Progress

To follow up from last week’s local tunes, here’s an in-progress tune we have been working on with a customer on the East coast. The gas quality is much better and this is seen in the numbers.

The car is a 2008.5 MazdaSpeed 3 with the following modifications:

CNT Catted Downpipe, CNT Catback Exhaust, CP-e Turbo Inlet Pipe, CP-e Short Ram Intake, Forge Bypass Valve, COBB Front Mount Intercooler, KMD Internals High Pressure Fuel Pump, ITV22 Spark Plugs, EGR Delete

The numbers speak for themselves. We were able to achieve 59 more WHP and 87 more Ft Lbs of torque more than the Off The Shelf (OTS) map and we’re not done yet. With less boost! Click on the attached Virtual Dyno below to enlarge and remember since this is a virtual dyno it is useful for comparing tunes, not absolute numbers.

Here’s where you can get your own custom tune!

Local Mazdaspeed3 Custom Tuning Day with the COBB AccessPort

Stratified had an early fall tuning day with a couple of local Mazdaspeed3 cars here in Vancouver, BC. The weather cooperated and everyone had a great time. It was such a great time that we had some unexpected visitors join us – the famous Tuning Cats!

Actually the poor creatures were homeless and we made sure they were picked up by the local SPCA before the day ended. A win for everyone!

Now on to the tuning. Vancouver and the Lower Mainland unfortunately suffer from some of the poorest gas quality in North America in terms of octane. Although stations here sell “94 octane” fuel, it is actually poorer than the 91 octane found just over the border. It is really a shame that we pay 30% more on top of this but I digress.

What this means in terms of tuning is that it’s an exercise in knock management. Off the showroom floor the Mazdaspeed3 vehicle will pull about 4 degrees of timing STOCK in the lower mainland due to this. A COBB Off the Shelf (OTS) map that is considered conservative will rattle the engine on the local gas and this is both dangerous and detrimental to performance. While these cars would be able to pick up 20whp easily with different gas, they were tuned for peak performance while also staying below the knock threshold. These cars were also on the stock high pressure fuel pumps so we had to be careful with this as well. It’s not great making less power, but it’s even worse having to buy a new engine!

The results were consistent for these mildly bolted MS3s (TMIC, COBB AP, Intake, TIP) and the owners left content with smooth power bands and cars they know they can safely “romp on” from here on out even with the stock cam driven high pressure pump (CDFP/HPFP) and our sub-part fuel. Mazdaspeed3 and Mazdaspeed6 Tuning!

Mazda has delivered an excellent package with the Mazdaspeed3 and Mazdaspeed6 cars. They are powerful, can handle, and look great! Since they are turbocharged, a lot of buyers want to extract the power that is so easily accessible with turbocharged vehicles. Adding a down pipe, better intercooling, a bigger turbo are all common modifications.

Stratified Mazdaspeed Tuning

However, without properly tuning the complex Mazda ECU, not only does the car not perform to its potential, but the motor can also be put in danger. Through the availability of a very powerful tuning tool – the COBB AccessPort – and our control systems and tuning expertise we teamed up with PERM tuning and are able to help you achieve a custom tune for your exact vehicle and for your modifications, climate, and fuel quality that improves on both stock and off-the shelf/canned tunes.

What’s better – the process doesn’t even require you to get to the dynamometer because the Mazda ECU is powerful enough so that all the tuning information necessary can be extracted during normal driving. (You can of course hop on the dyno to check the results at any time).

This applies to any 2006-2007 Mazdaspeed6 and 2007-2011 Mazdaspeed3.
